AISI 1045

AISI 1045

AISI 1045 steel, according to the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) system, corresponds to the Chinese national standard grade 45 steel (GB/T 699-1999).

AISI 1045 is a medium carbon steel with the following characteristics:

  • Carbon Content: Approximately 0.45% carbon.
  • Good balance of strength and ductility.
  • Typically used in machinery parts, like gears, bolts, and shafts.

Similarly, the Chinese grade 45 steel is a medium carbon quality steel with comparable properties:

  • Carbon Content: Close to 0.45%, aligning with AISI 1045.
  • Suitable for manufacturing high-strength moving parts.

Both these steels are known for their good machinability and can be heat treated for increased hardness, though they are not as hard as higher carbon steels like AISI 1050 or 1095. They are often used in applications where a combination of strength and moderate toughness is required.
